The centre of Sillamäe was built in one go and in one style — a 1950s ensemble descending by stairways towards the sea, which is a rarity in Estonia. Its buildings have high ceilings, heavy frames and original openings whose dimensions do not always match today's standard. The newer estates, by contrast, have the ordinary panel-block door. Frequently asked questions
The opening in a centre flat is non-standard. Can the lock still be replaced?
It can. In that case we choose the lock to fit the door rather than the other way round, and adjust the strike plate if needed. The leaf itself normally does not have to be touched.
Does being near the sea affect locks?
Yes, salt air speeds up corrosion, particularly on external doors and gates. Regular lubrication with a suitable product noticeably extends a lock's life.
