Ahtme is the largest district of Kohtla-Järve and effectively a town in its own right, centred on Ahtme road. The backbone of its housing is apartment blocks from the 1960s to the 1980s, whose stairwells hold much the same doors and locks throughout. That makes the work predictable: most flat doors take a standard euro-profile cylinder, and the stairwell door runs on a code lock or a shared key. Towards Old Ahtme there is lower, older housing where the locks are different again.

The stairwell door does not lock properly. Who fixes that?
The stairwell door is common property, so the work is normally ordered by the association or the manager. If you own a flat, tell the board — we come out on their order.
Can a better lock be fitted without replacing the door?
Usually yes. A standard flat door takes a stronger cylinder, and an armoured plate can be added to stop it being snapped. Replacing the door is needed less often than people assume.
