Järve is the administrative centre of Kohtla-Järve and holds the town's most complete older architecture — a 1940s and 1950s ensemble along the central avenue, behind which the later housing estates begin. The older buildings have thicker walls and different door frames from the later panel blocks, so a solution that suits a newer building does not always fit here.
